The E-Type was called the most beautiful car ever made by Enzo Ferrari. The XJ220 held the production car speed record. The F-Type kept the formula alive.
EuroJaguar is the British luxury and performance brand whose modern history is a long narrative of brilliant engineering followed by ownership turbulence. Founded in 1922 as Swallow Sidecar Company, the firm evolved through Jaguar Cars in 1945 to become one of the defining British luxury brands of the 20th century. The E-Type of 1961-1975 is the brand defining car. Enzo Ferrari called it the most beautiful car ever made. Long-bonnet front-engine grand tourer, available with a six-cylinder XK engine (Series 1 and 2) or a 5.3 liter V12 (Series 3), and styled by aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer. Clean Series 1 examples now sell for $200,000 to $400,000. The XJ220 of 1992-1994 was the brand modern halo. Twin-turbo V6 making 542 horsepower, 217 mph top speed, and a production run of just 281 cars. It briefly held the production car speed record before the McLaren F1 took it. The F-Type (2013-2024) was the modern Jaguar sports car, available with a supercharged V6 or supercharged V8 in coupe or convertible form. The F-Type R and F-Type SVR were genuinely fast and beautifully sounding. Production ended in 2024 as Jaguar prepares to relaunch as a fully electric luxury brand. The XJ luxury sedan, the XF executive sedan, and the XK grand tourer also defined modern Jaguar. The XK with its supercharged V8 and the XJR with the same engine are favorites in the used market for buyers wanting British luxury at deep discounts. On WhipJury, Jaguar submissions are dominated by F-Types, classic E-Types in restored or restomod form, XJR and XKR cars from the 2000s and 2010s, and the rare XJ220 or XJR-15 when one appears.
The E-Type launched in 1961 with a 3.8 liter XK inline six and stunning bodywork that made the car instantly iconic. Series 1 (1961-1968) is the purest design and the most valuable. Series 2 (1968-1971) added safety and emissions features. Series 3 (1971-1975) replaced the inline six with a 5.3 liter V12, becoming the first Jaguar V12 production car. All three series are highly collectible; condition and history matter as much as series for valuation.
The XJ220 was originally conceived as a V12 quad-turbo all-wheel-drive supercar, but TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing) reduced it to a twin-turbo V6 RWD configuration before production. The change angered some deposit holders but produced a car that was lighter and arguably faster than the original concept. The 217 mph top speed was achieved with TWR factory driver Andy Wallace at Nardo. Only 281 cars were built; clean examples now sell for over $1 million.
F-Type R and SVR submissions are common. E-Type submissions (especially restomods with modern drivetrains) tend to score very well in voting because of the design pedigree. XJR and XKR cars represent the affordable Jaguar performance segment. The community appreciates Jaguar role as the supercharged V8 sport luxury brand of the 2000s and 2010s.
