The Jaguar XK is the brand modern grand tourer, replacing the XJS. The first generation (X100, 1996-2006) introduced a sleek shape and AJ V8 power. The second generation (X150, 2006-2014) moved to a bonded-aluminum chassis and added the supercharged XKR, becoming a genuinely fast and beautiful GT. It is an elegant, comfortable two-plus-two. On WhipJury, the XK appears as a handsome, affordable used grand tourer, with the supercharged XKR the performance pick.

XK specifications

4.0 then 4.2 and 5.0 liter AJ V8; supercharged in the XKR. Rear-wheel drive. Automatic. X150 used a bonded-aluminum chassis. Coupe and convertible.

Frequently asked questions about Jaguar XK

What is the difference between the two XK generations?
The X100 (1996-2006) was the first modern XK with a steel structure and AJ V8. The X150 (2006-2014) used a lighter bonded-aluminum chassis and offered the supercharged XKR and later a 5.0 liter V8.
What is the XKR?
The supercharged, high-performance XK, with a supercharged V8 making the GT genuinely fast. It is the enthusiast pick of the range.
Is the XK reliable?
Generally acceptable. The AJ V8s are reasonably robust; early 4.0 liter engines had Nikasil concerns, and timing chain tensioners on certain V8s warrant attention. A well-maintained car is dependable.
Is the XK a four-seater?
It is a two-plus-two, with small rear seats best suited to luggage or children. It is primarily a two-seat grand tourer.
What replaced the XK?
The F-Type sports car took over Jaguar two-door performance role, though it is a smaller, more focused car than the GT-oriented XK.
