Frequently asked questions about Jaguar F-Type

Is the F-Type really discontinued?
Yes. The F-Type ended production in 2024. The brand is transitioning to electric vehicles and the F-Type platform was not adapted for that change. A future Jaguar sports car has been hinted at as part of the new lineup but not confirmed.
Is the F-Type as good as the E-Type?
Different priorities. F-Type is modern with supercharged V8 power and refined chassis. E-Type was 1960s-1970s engineering with naturally aspirated inline-six and elegant design. The F-Type pays visual tribute to the E-Type but is not a direct continuation. Both are excellent sports cars from their respective eras.
How much does an F-Type cost?
Used pricing: F-Type V6 $40,000-$60,000+. F-Type V8 $50,000-$75,000+. F-Type R $65,000-$95,000+. F-Type SVR $80,000-$130,000+. New 2024 F-Type SVR was around $130,000+.
Are F-Types reliable?
Generally yes when maintained. The supercharged V6 and V8 are durable. Common issues include some infotainment concerns and occasional cooling system items. Maintenance is moderately expensive due to specialty parts and limited Jaguar dealer support.
What is Project 7?
The F-Type Project 7 was a limited 250-car convertible variant produced in 2014-2015. Inspired by the 1956 Jaguar D-Type that won Le Mans, the Project 7 had a roadster body with a humped fairing behind the driver. Used pricing for clean Project 7 examples can exceed $300,000+ due to limited production.

Why Concept Cars Always Look Better Than the Production Version
Why Concept Cars Always Look Better Than the Production Version

Every few years a car company rolls something onto an auto show stage that makes the crowd go quiet for a second before the applause starts. The proportions are perfect. The surfaces are sculpture. The details are unlike anything currently on the road. Then two years later the production version arrives and something has happened to it. The roofline is higher. The wheel arches are smaller. The front end has been softened. The car that made people stop talking is now a car people drive past without looking at. This happens so consistently it might as well be a law of automotive physics...
