Toyota
Toyota's hot hatch for North America. The GR Yaris three-cylinder turbo and GR-Four AWD in a Corolla hatchback chassis.
The Toyota GR Corolla is a hot hatch produced from 2023 onward, bringing the GR Yaris G16E-GTS three-cylinder turbocharged engine to a Corolla hatchback chassis. The model is sold in North America (where the GR Yaris is not certified for sale) and serves as the GR-tier hot hatch for North American buyers. The GR Corolla shares the engine and drivetrain technology of the GR Yaris but with a more practical five-door hatchback body. The GR Corolla uses the same 1.6-liter G16E-GTS turbocharged three-cylinder engine as the GR Yaris (300 horsepower in standard tune for the GR Corolla, slightly more aggressive than European GR Yaris standard tune). The GR-Four AWD system is shared. The chassis is the Corolla GR hatchback body, with significant chassis stiffening and suspension tuning compared to standard Corolla. The GR Corolla launched in 2023 with strong critical reception. Reviews praise the engine character, the manual transmission, the chassis dynamics, and the overall package. The car competes directly with the Volkswagen Golf R and Hyundai Veloster N (in the same hot hatch segment). North American availability has been the primary differentiation; the GR Corolla is Toyota answer for buyers who wanted a GR Yaris in markets where that car is not sold. The GR Corolla MORIZO Edition is the focused variant. Reduced weight, increased aerodynamic content, and more aggressive suspension tuning. Production has been limited. The MORIZO Edition is the connoisseur GR Corolla pick for buyers prioritizing performance over practicality. On WhipJury, GR Corolla submissions are growing as the cars age into the platform. Stock examples reliably do well. Modified GR Corollas (intake, exhaust, tune, suspension upgrades) appear regularly.
The two share the G16E-GTS engine and GR-Four AWD system. The GR Corolla uses a five-door hatchback body (more practical); the GR Yaris uses a three-door body (more aggressive aero). The GR Corolla is sold in North America where the GR Yaris is not. The GR Yaris is the homologation special; the GR Corolla is the production-emphasized variant.
The GR Corolla MORIZO Edition is the focused track-oriented variant. Reduced weight (lightweight wheels, deleted rear seats), increased aerodynamic content, and more aggressive suspension tuning. Production was limited. The MORIZO Edition has become collector-tier from launch.
GR Corolla submissions are growing. Stock examples and lightly modified examples both find strong support. The community has grown rapidly since launch in 2023. The platform has built a meaningful tuning community in its short production history.
