McLaren 12C: The Car That Launched McLaren Automotive
The 12C was McLaren's first modern production road car, a carbon-tubbed, twin-turbo V8 supercar that launched the brand as a serious rival to Ferrari.
Originally launched as the MP4-12C in 2011 and later simplified to 12C, this was the car that established McLaren Automotive as a standalone road-car maker. Built around a carbon fiber MonoCell tub, it used a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 and advanced hydraulic suspension.
The 12C delivered devastating performance and a remarkably comfortable ride thanks to its clever ProActive Chassis Control, challenging the established order in the supercar class. It was offered as a coupe and later a Spider.
While early cars drew some criticism for being clinical, the 12C's engineering laid the foundation for every McLaren that followed, from the 650S to the P1.
