Lamborghini Islero: The Understated Grand Tourer
The Islero was a refined front-engined V12 grand tourer from the late 1960s, known for its discreet styling and the favor of company founder Ferruccio Lamborghini.
Produced from 1968 to 1969, the Islero replaced the 400 GT as Lamborghini's front-engined two-plus-two grand tourer. It used the company's celebrated 4.0-liter V12, delivering effortless performance in a more restrained, elegant package than the dramatic Miura that shared showroom space.
Named, like many Lamborghinis, after a famous fighting bull, the Islero was reportedly Ferruccio Lamborghini's personal favorite for its blend of comfort and discreet pace. Its understated lines meant it never grabbed headlines the way the mid-engined cars did.
Built in small numbers, including the improved Islero S, the car is now a rare and appreciated piece of early Lamborghini history, prized precisely for its subtlety and classic front-engine V12 grand touring character.
