McLaren MP4-12C: McLaren's Modern Road-Car Debut
The MP4-12C was the original name for McLaren's first modern production supercar, later shortened to 12C, marking the brand's road-car return.
Introduced in 2011, the MP4-12C was McLaren Automotive's first car since the legendary F1, signaling the brand's return to series road-car production. The MP4 prefix referenced McLaren's Formula 1 chassis naming tradition.
It paired a carbon fiber MonoCell with a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 and innovative hydraulically linked suspension, delivering supercar performance with everyday usability. McLaren later dropped the MP4 prefix, renaming the car simply 12C.
As the foundation of the modern McLaren range, the MP4-12C proved the brand could translate its racing expertise into a credible, technologically advanced road car.
