Chevrolet Monte Carlo: The Personal Luxury Coupe
The Monte Carlo was Chevrolet's personal luxury coupe, blending style and comfort with available muscle and a strong NASCAR connection.
Introduced in 1970, the Monte Carlo was Chevrolet's take on the personal luxury coupe, offering long-hood styling, a comfortable ride, and available V8 power. Early models included potent SS versions during the muscle era.
Over several generations the Monte Carlo became closely tied to NASCAR, where its name appeared on Chevrolet's stock cars for years, boosting its image. Later front-wheel-drive versions continued the SS performance theme.
The Monte Carlo was discontinued in 2007, but it remains a beloved nameplate, especially the stylish coupes of the 1970s and the NASCAR-linked later models.
