The BMW M6 is the high-performance grand tourer based on the 6 Series. The E63/E64 M6 (2005-2010) shared the S85 5.0 liter V10 with the E60 M5, making around 500 horsepower with a 8,250 rpm redline. The F06/F12/F13 M6 (2012-2018) switched to the S63 twin-turbo V8 with around 560 to 600 horsepower in Competition form. The M6 has always been the more luxurious, GT-oriented M car, offered as a coupe, convertible, and four-door Gran Coupe. It trades some of the M5 practicality for sleeker styling. On WhipJury, M6 submissions are rarer than M5s but stand out for the V10 soundtrack and the muscular twin-turbo V8 cars.

Frequently asked questions about BMW M6

Does the M6 have a V10?
The E63/E64 M6 (2005-2010) used the S85 5.0 liter V10 shared with the E60 M5. Later F-series M6 cars switched to the S63 twin-turbo V8.
What is the difference between M5 and M6?
They share engines, but the M6 is the sleeker, more GT-focused coupe, convertible, or Gran Coupe, while the M5 is the practical sport sedan. The M6 trades rear space for style.
Is the M6 reliable?
The V10 cars are powerful but maintenance-intensive, with rod bearings and SMG concerns to watch. The twin-turbo V8 cars are robust but require diligent cooling and maintenance, especially with track use.
How fast is the M6?
The twin-turbo V8 M6 Competition runs to 60 miles per hour in around 3.7 seconds. The V10 car is a touch slower but revs higher and sounds extraordinary.
Is there a four-door M6?
Yes, the M6 Gran Coupe (F06) is a four-door version of the F-series M6, combining the twin-turbo V8 with a more practical body.
