Pontiac G8: The Australian-Built Performance Sedan
The G8 was a rear-drive performance sedan based on the Australian Holden Commodore, a brief but beloved muscle sedan.
Produced for 2008 and 2009, the G8 was a rear-wheel-drive sport sedan imported from Australia, based on the Holden Commodore. It gave Pontiac a genuine performance sedan with available V8 power, strong handling, and a spacious, practical body.
The top G8 GXP featured a 6.2-liter LS-family V8 producing over 400 horsepower and an available manual transmission, making it a true muscle sedan. Critics praised its blend of performance, comfort, and value.
The G8's run was cut short by Pontiac's demise in 2009, but it became a cult favorite. Its underpinnings later returned as the Chevrolet SS.
