Pontiac Aztek: The Controversial Crossover Pioneer
The Aztek was a polarizing crossover SUV, panned for its styling but later recognized as an early, practical crossover ahead of its time.
Produced from 2000 to 2005, the Aztek became infamous for its unconventional, widely criticized styling. Yet beneath the controversial looks, it was a genuinely practical and innovative early crossover, offering versatile cargo features, available all-wheel drive, and even a tent camping package.
The Aztek anticipated the crossover boom that would follow, blending car-like driving with SUV practicality. Its reputation was later somewhat rehabilitated, partly thanks to its prominent role in the television series Breaking Bad.
The Aztek is remembered as a design cautionary tale that was nonetheless ahead of its time in concept, becoming an unlikely cult curiosity.
