Nissan
Nissan's modern Z car (2002-2009). VQ35DE V6, RWD, FM platform shared with Infiniti G35. The breakthrough that revived Z cars after the 300ZX.
The Nissan 350Z (chassis code Z33) is a sport coupe and roadster produced from 2002 to 2009. The 350Z revived the Z car nameplate after the 300ZX ended production in 1996, returning Nissan to the affordable sport coupe segment. The 350Z used the FM (Front Midship) platform shared with the Infiniti G35; the platform achieves excellent weight distribution by mounting the engine behind the front axle line. The VQ35DE V6 made 280-306 horsepower depending on year (early cars 280, later cars with the rev-up VQ35DE 306). Six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmissions. Rear-wheel drive. The chassis received excellent reviews for its balance and engagement. The Track edition (focused track-oriented variant with stiffer suspension and brakes) is the connoisseur 350Z pick. The 350Z became a cultural success. Reviews praised the handling, the engine character, and the value proposition. The car appeared in numerous films and television shows. The chassis was popular for modifications, with VQ-series engine upgrades and supercharger kits being common. Production ended in 2009 with the launch of the 370Z. The 350Z has aged into recognized sport coupe collector territory. Used pricing has been climbing as the cars become recognized future classics. On WhipJury, 350Z submissions are common, particularly Track edition examples and modified builds with VQ35DE engine upgrades. Stock examples in clean condition reliably do well.
Front Midship platform shared with Infiniti G35. Engine mounted behind front axle line for near 50/50 weight distribution. Rear-wheel drive. The platform produced excellent chassis dynamics that surprised reviewers when launched.
3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6. 280-306 horsepower depending on year. Reliable, responsive, and respond well to bolt-ons. Aftermarket support is strong; superchargers, turbo conversions, and various engine modifications extend the platform performance significantly. The VQ35DE was used in numerous Nissan and Infiniti applications during this era.
Stock 350Zs reliably do well. Track edition examples are particularly desirable. Modified builds (intake, exhaust, suspension, supercharger) appear regularly. The community recognizes the 350Z as one of the best sport coupes of its era.
