Maserati 3200 GT: The Boomerang-Tail GT That Revived the Trident
The 3200 GT marked Maserati's return to form after years in the wilderness, pairing a twin-turbo V8 with Giugiaro styling and those unforgettable boomerang taillights.
Launched in 1998, the 3200 GT was the car that put Maserati back on the map as a serious grand tourer builder. After a turbulent decade under De Tomaso ownership, the brand passed to Fiat and then into the Ferrari fold, and the 3200 GT was the first fruit of that renewed investment.
Under the hood sat a 3.2-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing around 365 horsepower, enough to push the 2+2 coupe past 175 mph. The styling came from Italdesign and Giorgetto Giugiaro, whose clean, muscular shape was crowned by LED boomerang taillights that became the car's signature detail.
The cabin blended supple leather, analogue gauges and a long-legged GT character meant for crossing continents rather than chasing lap times. The 3200 GT was later replaced by the naturally aspirated Coupe, but it remains a milestone as the model that re-established Maserati's identity.
