Land Rover
Land Rover's iconic off-roader. Original (1983-2016) and modern L663 (2020+). The off-road specialist that has defined the segment since 1948.
The Land Rover Defender traces its lineage continuously to the original Series 1 Land Rover of 1948. The original Defender ran from 1983 to 2016 with the same boxy shape and serious off-road capability that made the Series 1 famous. Production paused for several years before the new Defender (L663) launched in 2020 with a fully redesigned monocoque chassis. The original Defender used body-on-frame construction, live axles front and rear, and various engine options across the production run. The new L663 Defender uses monocoque chassis (instead of historic body-on-frame) with modern interior, refined ride quality, and continued off-road capability. The 90 (short wheelbase), 110 (long wheelbase), and 130 (extra-long wheelbase) trim out the modern lineup. On WhipJury, Defender submissions are particularly active among off-road enthusiasts. Both classic and modern L663 builds with overland modifications are common.
