Honda
The hybrid pioneer. The original was America first hybrid; later cars were efficient sedans.
The Honda Insight holds a special place in automotive history as the first mass-produced hybrid sold in the United States, beating the Prius to the American market in 1999. The original two-seat Insight used a lightweight aluminum body and aerodynamic teardrop shape to achieve remarkable fuel economy with its IMA hybrid system. Later Insight generations became more conventional, efficient hybrid hatchbacks and sedans, trading the radical original design for mainstream practicality. The original Insight remains a landmark, quirky efficiency icon. On WhipJury, the Insight appears as a pioneering hybrid, with the radical original drawing the most interest.
