Citroen C4

The C4 nameplate began in 2004 as Citroen's mainstream compact hatchback, sitting between the C3 and C5 and competing with cars like the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus. Early generations were relatively conventional in styling, focused on practicality and the brand's usual comfort-oriented ride.

The current generation, launched in 2020, broke from that formula with dramatic SUV-coupe styling, a raised ride height, and a coupe-like roofline that makes it stand out sharply from typical compact hatchbacks. Citroen also offered it from launch as the e-C4, a fully electric version sharing its platform with electric siblings across the Stellantis group.

By blending crossover proportions, hatchback practicality, and an electric powertrain option in one body style, the modern C4 reflects Citroen's attempt to stay distinctive in a segment increasingly dominated by lookalike crossovers, while still offering the comfort-tuned ride the brand is known for.
