Volkswagen Scirocco: The Sporty Coupe
The Scirocco was Volkswagen's sporty coupe, a stylish and fun front-wheel-drive car based on Golf mechanicals across two distinct eras.
The original Scirocco, launched in 1974, was a sleek coupe based on the Golf, actually arriving slightly before the Golf itself. Light, affordable, and enjoyable to drive, it offered sporty style and gave enthusiasts a more rakish alternative to the hatchback.
Volkswagen revived the Scirocco in 2008 as a modern sport coupe, again based on Golf underpinnings, with turbocharged engines and sharp handling. This later Scirocco was sold in Europe and other markets but not in the US.
Across both eras the Scirocco offered style and driving fun at an accessible price, earning a devoted following among Volkswagen enthusiasts.
