Volkswagen
Mk4 R32 (2002-2004) and Mk5 R32 (2008-2009). 3.2L VR6 with 4Motion AWD. The cult classic precursor to modern Golf R.
The Volkswagen R32 is a high-performance variant of the Golf, produced as Mk4 R32 (2002-2004 in Europe, 2004 in North America) and Mk5 R32 (2008-2009 in North America). The R32 used a 3.2-liter VR6 engine making 240 horsepower, 4Motion AWD, and either DSG or manual transmission. The R32 became cult classic among VW enthusiasts. The combination of VR6 engine character, AWD performance, and unique trim packaging made it desirable. Production volumes were limited globally; the R32 became the spiritual ancestor to the modern Golf R line. The Mk5 R32 in particular has appreciated significantly. Used pricing has climbed from sub-$20,000 to current $30,000-$50,000+ depending on condition. Clean low-mile examples have crossed $60,000. On WhipJury, R32 submissions are uncommon but always memorable. Both Mk4 and Mk5 R32s have devoted followings.
