Spun off from Dodge as a standalone brand in 2010. The Ram 1500 TRX, Power Wagon, and 2500 HD diesel define the modern Ram lineup.
TruckRam is the truck-focused brand of Stellantis (formerly Fiat Chrysler), spun off from Dodge in 2010 to focus exclusively on pickups and commercial vans. The strategic reason was simple: pickups have a different buyer base from passenger cars, and the corporate parent saw an opportunity to build dedicated marketing and dealership messaging around trucks alone. The Ram 1500, Ram 2500/3500 HD, ProMaster commercial van, and Ram Dakota mid-size pickup make up the lineup. The Ram 1500 light-duty pickup is the volume seller and the focus of most enthusiast attention. The 5.7 Hemi V8 has been the signature Ram engine since the early 2000s, and the supercharged 6.2 Hellcat Hemi powered the limited-production Ram TRX (2021-2024) for a brief peak that competed directly with the Ford Raptor. The TRX produced 702 horsepower, ran 0-60 in 4.5 seconds in a 6,400-pound pickup, and was discontinued in 2024 alongside the broader Hellcat platform wind-down. The Power Wagon trim of the Ram 2500 (heavy duty) is the brand serious off-road focused truck. Locking front and rear differentials, disconnecting sway bar, and a winch make it one of the most capable factory off-road pickups available. The Power Wagon nameplate dates to 1945 and was originally a military-derived heavy-duty Dodge truck. The Ram 1500 Limited and Ram 2500 Limited Longhorn are the brand luxury trims, competing with the Ford F-150 King Ranch/Limited and the GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate. Real wood, leather, and large infotainment screens push truck pricing well into luxury vehicle territory. On WhipJury, Ram submissions are heavy on TRX pickups, Power Wagons, and lifted 1500 and 2500 trucks. The community appreciates the engineering ambition of the TRX program and the off-road focus of the Power Wagon.
The Ram 1500 TRX (2021-2024) was the Hellcat as a truck. Same supercharged 6.2 Hemi V8 making 702 horsepower, eight-speed automatic, full-time all-wheel drive with locking front and rear differentials, and serious off-road suspension. It was developed specifically to compete with the Ford F-150 Raptor and exceeded the Raptor on power and acceleration while being slightly heavier. Production ended in 2024.
The Ram 2500 Power Wagon is the brand heavy-duty off-road specialist. Standard equipment includes electronic locking front and rear differentials, disconnecting front sway bar, 33-inch tires, and a Warn winch integrated into the front bumper. The truck is designed for serious off-road use including rock crawling and overlanding, where the heavier 2500 chassis provides advantages over the lighter 1500.
Ram submissions are dominated by TRX trucks (often modified with larger tires and exhaust), Power Wagons, and lifted 1500s. The Ram 2500 with the Cummins diesel has a small but devoted following. The community treats Ram as the truck brand willing to make the most extreme factory variants.
