Ram Dakota: The Midsize Pickup
The Dakota was a midsize pickup that uniquely offered V8 power, bridging the gap between compact and full-size trucks.
Originally a Dodge and later carried under the Ram brand, the Dakota was a midsize pickup notable for offering V8 engines when most midsize rivals stuck to four- and six-cylinders. This gave it a capability edge, with stronger towing and payload than typical compact trucks.
Across its generations the Dakota offered various cab and bed configurations and even a convertible variant early on. It carved out a niche for buyers who wanted more than a compact truck but less bulk than a full-size pickup.
Production ended in 2011 as the midsize segment contracted, but the Dakota is remembered as a distinctive, capable midsize truck with available V8 muscle.
