Mitsubishi Endeavor: A Midsize SUV Built in America
The Endeavor was Mitsubishi's midsize crossover SUV, built in Illinois and powered exclusively by a 3.8-liter V6, aimed at the family-hauler mainstream of the 2000s.
Introduced for 2004, the Endeavor was part of Mitsubishi's "Project America" effort to build vehicles tailored for the US market at its plant in Normal, Illinois. It shared its platform underpinnings with the Galant and Eclipse of the era, giving it a car-like ride rather than truck-based ruggedness.
Every Endeavor used a 3.8-liter V6 producing around 225 horsepower, paired with a four-speed automatic and front- or all-wheel drive. The styling was bold for its time, with a prominent grille and muscular fender flares that gave it road presence in the crowded midsize segment.
The Endeavor never sold in huge numbers and soldiered on with minimal changes until 2011, when Mitsubishi discontinued it without a direct replacement. It remains a footnote in the brand's US history, but a dependable and roomy used buy for those who find one.
