Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross: A Coupe-Styled Compact Crossover
The Eclipse Cross revived a storied nameplate as a compact crossover, blending sharp coupe-influenced styling with turbocharged power and available all-wheel drive.
When Mitsubishi attached the Eclipse name to a crossover in 2017, enthusiasts who remembered the sporty front-drive coupe of the 1990s raised an eyebrow. The Eclipse Cross is a very different machine: a compact SUV slotted between the smaller Outlander Sport and the larger Outlander, aimed squarely at buyers who want style and a raised seating position.
It launched with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder paired to a continuously variable transmission, with Mitsubishi's S-AWC all-wheel-drive system available. The cabin emphasized technology, and early cars featured a distinctive split rear window that was simplified in the 2022 facelift, which also cleaned up the rear styling and added a plug-in hybrid variant in some markets.
The Eclipse Cross competes in one of the most crowded segments in the industry. It distinguishes itself with bold styling, a strong warranty, and value pricing rather than outright performance, making it a practical choice for buyers who want something visually different.
