Mercedes-Benz GL: The Full-Size Luxury SUV
The GL was Mercedes-Benz's full-size three-row luxury SUV, a spacious flagship crossover that later became the GLS.
Launched in 2006, the GL-Class was Mercedes-Benz's largest SUV, offering three rows of seating, genuine luxury, and strong towing and off-road capability. Built in the US, it competed with full-size luxury SUVs and large family haulers.
The GL offered powerful V6, V8, and diesel engines, available air suspension, and a comfortable, premium interior with room for seven. It combined limousine comfort with the practicality and presence of a large SUV.
The GL was renamed GLS in 2015 to align with Mercedes' naming structure, but it established the brand's presence in the full-size luxury SUV class.
