Frequently asked questions about Mercedes-Benz C-Class

What is the legendary C63 AMG?
The W204 C63 AMG (2008-2014) with the M156 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 making 451-510 horsepower. Hand-built engine, naturally aspirated, distinctive sound. Widely considered the most legendary C63 AMG era.
Is the new hybrid C63 still good?
Mixed reviews. The W206 C63 (2023+) uses a 2.0 four-cylinder plus electric motor for combined 671 horsepower. Significantly more powerful than predecessors but the four-cylinder character has been controversial. Hybrid system adds complexity. Some reviewers prefer the V8 character of older C63 generations.
How much does a C-Class cost?
Standard C300: $50,000-$70,000 new. C63 AMG: $90,000-$120,000 new. Used C63 AMG (W204): $30,000-$60,000+. W205 C63: $40,000-$80,000+. W206 C63: $80,000-$110,000+.
Are C63 AMGs reliable?
Mixed depending on year. The M156 V8 in W204 has known head bolt issues. The twin-turbo V8 in W205 has been generally reliable. The new hybrid four-cylinder in W206 is too new for definitive data. Maintenance is expensive due to specialty parts.
How does C63 compare to BMW M3?
Different priorities. C63 has more aggressive sound (V8 in older generations), more luxury-focused interior, and more refined daily character. M3 has sharper handling, better steering feel, and more aggressive sport sedan tuning. Both are excellent; choice depends on preferences for sound and steering feel.
