Mercedes-Benz
The original Gullwing. 1954-1957 race-derived sports car. First production car with fuel injection. The most beautiful Mercedes ever produced.
The Mercedes-Benz 300SL is a sports car produced from 1954 to 1957 (Gullwing) and 1957 to 1963 (Roadster). The 300SL is one of the most legendary cars ever produced, with the Gullwing variant being one of the most beautiful and significant cars of the 1950s. The 300SL was the first production car with mechanical fuel injection, providing 240 horsepower from a 3.0-liter inline-six engine. The 300SL Gullwing (1954-1957) used distinctive gullwing doors due to the chassis tube structure. The gullwing doors became the visual signature of the model. The roadster variant (1957-1963) replaced the gullwing doors with conventional doors as the chassis was modified for the convertible body. Modern 300SL prices reflect the cultural and engineering significance. Clean Gullwings sell for $1.5-3 million at auction. The 300SL has been continuously celebrated as one of the great sports cars of any era. On WhipJury, 300SL submissions are extremely rare but always memorable. The cultural significance and pricing make 300SL appearances rare; when they appear, they reliably top voting on heritage alone.
