The Infiniti G35 is the car that turned Infiniti from a sleepy luxury badge into an enthusiast brand. Built on the Nissan FM platform shared with the Z, and closely related to the Japanese-market V35 Skyline, it paired rear-wheel drive with the VQ35DE 3.5 liter V6 making around 280 to 306 horsepower depending on year and body. Offered as a sedan and a coupe, the G35 undercut the BMW 3-Series on price while matching it for driving feel. It became a tuner favorite almost immediately, sharing engine and chassis hardware with the 350Z. On WhipJury, G35 coupe builds are common, often with bolt-ons, coilovers, and aggressive wheel fitment.

G35 specifications

VQ35DE 3.5 liter V6, around 280 to 306 horsepower. Rear-wheel drive (AWD optional on sedan). 5-speed automatic or 6-speed manual on the coupe and 6MT Sport sedan. Nissan FM platform, shared with the 350Z and the V35 Skyline.

Frequently asked questions about Infiniti G35

Is the G35 a Skyline?
It shares its FM platform and much of its hardware with the Japanese-market V35 Skyline, and the G35 coupe was sold as the Skyline Coupe in Japan. It is not the legendary GT-R, but it is genuinely Skyline-based, which is part of why enthusiasts took to it.
How much power does the G35 make?
Roughly 280 horsepower in early cars, rising to around 298 to 306 in the later VQ35DE Rev-up coupe and 6MT sedan. The exact figure depends on model year and body style.
Is the G35 reliable?
Generally yes. The VQ35DE is a durable engine. Common items are oil consumption on some examples, front tire wear, and aging suspension bushings. Regular maintenance keeps them dependable, which is why so many survive as tuner cars.
G35 sedan or coupe?
The coupe is the enthusiast pick for its styling and slightly higher output in Rev-up form. The sedan is more practical and the 6MT Sport sedan is a sleeper. Both share the same drivetrain and tuning potential.
What replaced the G35?
The G37, which used the larger VQ37VHR 3.7 liter V6. The G nameplate later became the Q50 sedan and Q60 coupe under Infiniti revised naming scheme.
