BYD Tang: Three-Row Electric and Plug-In Hybrid SUV
The BYD Tang is a midsize three-row SUV available as a pure electric or DM plug-in hybrid, offering six or seven seats and dual-motor all-wheel drive.
The BYD Tang is the brand's flagship family SUV and one of its longest-running models, having debuted in 2015 with ongoing generational updates. It offers buyers a choice between a fully electric powertrain and BYD's DM Dual Mode plug-in hybrid system, making it one of the few large family SUVs available in both configurations from a single manufacturer. Three rows of seating accommodate six or seven passengers depending on the configuration.
Dual-motor all-wheel drive is standard on most variants, providing strong traction on varied surfaces and brisk combined output that makes the Tang feel agile despite its large footprint. The electric Tang uses the Blade battery, benefiting from the same thermal safety and longevity advantages seen across BYD's newer lineup. The DM hybrid variant suits buyers in markets with less charging infrastructure by extending effective range well beyond what the battery alone provides.
The Tang has been exported to Europe and other markets as part of BYD's international expansion, where it competes against the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, Kia Sorento, and similar three-row offerings. Its combination of seating capacity, all-wheel drive, and powertrain flexibility gives it a distinct position in segments where most rival EVs offer only five-seat configurations. Interior features include a large central touchscreen, premium materials, and a panoramic roof on higher trim levels.
