BYD Atto 3: Global Compact Electric SUV
The BYD Atto 3 (sold as the Yuan Plus in China) is a compact electric SUV built on e-Platform 3.0 with a Blade battery and a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
The Atto 3 is BYD's highest-volume international model and serves as the brand's primary entry point in markets like Europe, Australia, and Southeast Asia. Built on the e-Platform 3.0 architecture, it combines a front-mounted electric motor with BYD's Blade lithium-iron-phosphate battery pack in a package sized to compete directly with the Volkswagen ID.4 and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
The battery capacity is approximately 60 kWh, delivering an estimated real-world range of around 260 miles on the WLTP cycle. The Atto 3 earned a five-star rating from Euro NCAP, reflecting the inherent structural advantages of the cell-to-pack Blade battery acting as part of the floor structure. Interior design features a rotating center console, elasticated storage pockets, and a large floating touchscreen that differentiates it visually from more conservative rivals.
As BYD's flagship export model in the compact SUV segment, the Atto 3 has driven significant brand awareness outside China. It benefits from BYD's vertical integration, keeping manufacturing costs lower than many Western EV makers while offering a competitive warranty and a broad software feature set. Over-the-air updates and a growing charging network partnership program have helped address early concerns about charging infrastructure in export markets.
