Buick's most legendary muscle (1987). 547 cars total, turbocharged 3.8 V6 making 276 horsepower. One of the fastest American cars of the 1980s.
The Buick Regal Grand National Experimental (GNX) is a limited-production muscle car produced for the 1987 model year only. The GNX was developed jointly with McLaren Performance Technologies as a focused performance variant of the Regal Grand National. Total production was 547 cars globally. The GNX used a turbocharged 3.8L V6 making 276 horsepower (factory rating, actual output likely higher). The car ran 0-60 in around 4.7 seconds, faster than contemporary Ferraris, Porsche 944 Turbos, and most production cars of the era. Black paint only. Various engineering refinements over the standard Grand National. Today, clean GNXs sell for over $200,000 at auction. The GNX has been one of the most appreciating American muscle cars over the past two decades. On WhipJury, GNX submissions are uncommon but always memorable. The combination of cultural significance, limited production, and unique performance heritage drives strong voter response.
