Leapmotor T03: Tiny Affordable City EV for Europe
The Leapmotor T03 is a compact four-seat electric hatchback sold in Europe as one of the most affordable new EVs on the market.
The T03 is a small A-segment hatchback measuring around 3.6 metres in length, putting it in the same size class as the Renault Twingo or Fiat 500. It is powered by a front-mounted electric motor producing approximately 70 kW, drawing from a 37 kWh battery pack that gives a WLTP range of around 265 km. That is more than enough for daily urban driving, and the compact dimensions make parking in tight city streets easy. Top speed is electronically limited to around 130 km/h, which is adequate for motorway use.
In China the T03 was one of Leapmotor's original volume sellers and helped establish the brand's reputation for delivering usable technology at a low price. For its European launch through Leapmotor International, the T03 received updates to meet European safety and homologation standards. The interior is simple but includes a touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, and a suite of driver-assistance features that would cost extra or be unavailable on comparably priced rivals.
The T03's main appeal in Europe is its price tag. At launch it was aimed at a segment where affordable new EVs are scarce, competing with used electric cars more than new ones. For city dwellers who want a new EV warranty, reliable after-sales service through the Stellantis network, and low running costs without a large upfront payment, the T03 makes a strong case as an entry point into electric motoring.
