Leapmotor C11: The Breakout SUV in EV and EREV
The Leapmotor C11 is a midsize five-seat SUV offered in battery-electric and extended-range variants, and it is the model that established Leapmotor as a serious player in China's competitive EV market.
Launched in China in 2021, the C11 was a pivotal product for Leapmotor. It competes directly with the Tesla Model Y and a host of Chinese midsize electric SUVs on both price and specification. The battery-electric versions use rear- or dual-motor configurations producing up to around 400 kW in performance trim, with long-range variants offering over 500 km of CLTC-rated range from a large 90 kWh battery. Charging capability reaches up to 250 kW on fast DC stations in later versions, making long-distance travel practical.
The EREV C11 uses a 1.5-litre petrol range extender alongside a smaller battery, giving buyers flexibility for mixed urban and highway use without depending entirely on charging infrastructure. This drivetrain became popular in China where charging availability varies significantly by region. The interior of all C11 variants features a wide dual-screen layout, a flat floor, and Leapmotor's proprietary intelligent driving system with camera and radar-based highway assistance.
The C11 demonstrated that Leapmotor could compete on product quality rather than price alone, outselling several more established rivals and catching the attention of Stellantis ahead of the partnership deal. While the C10 is the face of Leapmotor's international launch, the C11 remains a cornerstone of the domestic China lineup and a proof of concept that Leapmotor's full-domain self-research model can produce genuinely desirable vehicles.
