Leapmotor C16: Six-Seat Family SUV in EV and EREV
The Leapmotor C16 is a large three-row six-seat SUV offered in both battery-electric and extended-range configurations, aimed at families seeking space and flexibility at a value price.
The C16 is Leapmotor's largest production vehicle and targets the growing demand for spacious family SUVs that can carry six passengers across two rows of full seats plus a third row. The exterior is proportionally larger than the C10 and C11, with a long wheelbase to maximise cabin space. The battery-electric version uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive layout producing competitive power outputs, with a large battery pack aimed at delivering around 500 km of CLTC-rated range to ensure the big SUV does not feel range-restricted on family trips.
The EREV variant of the C16 is particularly well suited to family buyers who may not always have access to home charging. The extended-range system uses a petrol generator to keep the battery topped up on longer journeys, giving a total range that removes long-distance anxiety entirely. Both drivetrain versions of the C16 share the same roomy interior layout, which features a panoramic roof, captain's chairs in the second row, and Leapmotor's full smart-cabin technology suite including a large infotainment screen, voice control, and over-the-air updates.
The C16 competes in a segment occupied by vehicles like the Li Auto L7 and AITO M7 in China, where three-row family SUVs have become one of the fastest-growing EV categories. Leapmotor's value positioning means the C16 is priced below most six-seat rivals of comparable specification. As Leapmotor International expands its model range beyond the initial European launch vehicles, the C16's combination of size, drivetrain flexibility, and pricing makes it a logical candidate for global markets where large family EVs are in demand.
