Ford Galaxie: The Full-Size 1960s Icon
The Galaxie was Ford's full-size car through the 1960s, offering everything from family transport to big-block performance.
Introduced in 1959, the Galaxie was Ford's full-size flagship line for much of the 1960s, named to evoke the era's space-race excitement. It offered spacious, comfortable cruising in numerous body styles, including stylish two-door hardtops.
Performance versions, particularly those with big-block V8s and the lightweight 427-powered cars, made the Galaxie a force in NASCAR and drag racing during the muscle era. The upscale Galaxie 500 and 500 XL trims added luxury and sportiness.
The Galaxie name was retired in the early 1970s, but it remains a beloved symbol of full-size American cars from a golden age.
