The Acura NSX (also called Honda NSX in some markets) is a hybrid mid-engine supercar produced from 2016 to 2022. The second-generation NSX continued the legacy of the original 1990-2005 NSX with significantly different engineering: hybrid powertrain combining twin-turbocharged V6 with three electric motors for combined 573 horsepower. The NSX has been polarizing among enthusiasts. Some appreciate the modern engineering ambition and hybrid technology. Others prefer the analog character of the original NSX. Sales were modest globally; production ended in 2022 after a 6-year run. The Acura NSX Type S (2022) was the focused performance variant of the modern NSX. Limited production and refined chassis tuning. On WhipJury, modern NSX submissions are uncommon but always memorable.

How is the modern NSX different from original?
Significantly. Original NSX (1990-2005) was naturally aspirated V6 mid-engine, manual transmission optional, analog character, weighed around 3,000 pounds. Modern NSX (2016-2022) is hybrid twin-turbo V6 with three electric motors, dual-clutch automatic only, and weighs over 3,800 pounds. The modern is faster but loses some original analog character.
Why was production limited?
Modest sales. Acura NSX did not match original NSX sales success. The combination of hybrid complexity, premium pricing ($170,000+), and competing supercar options resulted in lower volumes than projected. Production ended in 2022.
How much does a modern NSX cost?
Used pricing: NSX (standard) $90,000-$140,000+. NSX Type S $200,000-$300,000+. Original MSRP was around $156,000. Used pricing has been generally stable.
Is the modern NSX reliable?
Generally yes. The hybrid system has been reliable. Common issues include occasional electronic concerns and the specialty maintenance items. Acura provides specialist service through its dealer network.
What is the NSX Type S?
The Acura NSX Type S (2022) was the focused performance variant of the modern NSX. 600 horsepower (vs 573 standard). Refined chassis tuning, more aggressive aerodynamics. Limited production. Final variant of the second-generation NSX before discontinuation.
