Honda has refreshed the Civic Type R for 2027, and the most visible change is up front. The hatch gets a new front fascia with a larger grille opening and a deeper splitter, which Honda says adds downforce and improves engine cooling on track.
The update arrives as the car hits two birthdays. Honda says 2027 marks 30 years of the Civic Type R worldwide and 10 years in North America.
Power doesn't change. The turbocharged 2.0-liter K20C still makes 315 hp, and Honda still builds it at its Anna Engine Plant in Ohio. The six-speed manual remains the only transmission. The chassis changes are small. Honda retuned the damping in +R mode to cut bouncing and impact harshness. It added a yoke spring to the brake pedal to take play out of the linkage, and it says the rev-matching system now responds faster on downshifts. Under the hood, the engine cover was redesigned to look more like the ones on early Type Rs sold in Japan.

Meteorite Gray Metallic joins the palette, alongside Boost Blue Pearl, Sonic Gray Pearl, and Championship White.

Inside, the front seats are heated for the first time, with three settings. The red suede-like upholstery gets a new perforation pattern with black striping. Honda added Ultrasuede to the upper dash and front doors, which it says cuts glare on the windshield. The aluminum shift knob, door handles, and console trim now have a dark gray finish.

Google built-in, with Gemini, arrives on the Type R for the first time, along with Alexa built-in and two USB-C ports above the wireless charger. Post-Collision Braking is now standard.
"The refreshed 2027 Civic Type R honors that legacy by enhancing comfort, technology and style without compromising the exhilarating driving experience," said Luis Guerra, an assistant vice president at American Honda.

Price, and Europe's exit
The 2027 Type R has an MSRP of $48,695. Add the $1,295 destination charge and it comes to $49,990, with premium paint another $455. The EPA rates it at 22 mpg city, 28 highway, and 24 combined.
Carscoops puts the 2026 car at $48,690 with destination, so the 2027 costs $1,300 more.
Europeans can't buy one. Honda pulled the Type R from Europe over emissions rules, sending it off with 40 Ultimate Edition cars, and the remaining stock was expected to run out in 2026. Honda calls the US car America's best-selling hot hatch.
