XPeng G6: The High-Volume 800-Volt Model Y Rival
The XPeng G6 is a midsize electric SUV built on the SEPA 2.0 platform with 800-volt fast-charging, targeting the Tesla Model Y with competitive range, technology, and pricing.
Released in 2023, the XPeng G6 quickly became one of the brand's highest-volume models by delivering the key technology features of the larger G9 at a more accessible price. It uses the same 800-volt SEPA 2.0 platform, which enables peak DC charging above 280 kW at compatible stations. This lets drivers add substantial range during a short coffee stop, a meaningful advantage over rivals that rely on older 400-volt architectures including the standard Tesla Model Y.
The G6 is available in rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations, with CLTC-rated ranges between roughly 570 and 755 km depending on trim. The AWD version covers 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Standard equipment on most trims includes XNGP-capable hardware, a large central touchscreen, OTA update support, and a heat pump for cold-weather efficiency. The exterior design features a minimalist fastback silhouette optimized for aerodynamic efficiency.
XPeng has used the G6 to aggressively challenge Tesla's Model Y dominance in China, offering comparable interior space and more advanced driver assistance technology at similar or lower price points in some configurations. For international buyers, the G6 has been introduced in European markets as a direct Model Y competitor, with XNGP and 800-volt charging serving as primary differentiators in a crowded midsize electric SUV segment.
