Li Auto Mega: Pure-Electric MPV with Ultra-Fast 5C Charging
The Li Auto Mega is the brand's first fully battery-electric vehicle, a large MPV with a bold bullet-train-inspired body, an 800-volt electrical architecture, and 5C ultra-fast charging that adds hundreds of kilometers of range in minutes.
The Mega marks a major departure from Li Auto's EREV heritage. It carries no gasoline engine and no range-extender generator -- it is entirely battery-electric, powered by a large battery pack and one or two electric motors driving the rear wheels. Li Auto built the Mega around an 800-volt high-voltage platform, which enables it to accept energy at rates up to 5C, meaning it can theoretically charge at power levels that add roughly 500 kilometers of CLTC range in approximately 12 minutes at a compatible ultra-fast station. The vehicle's CLTC range is rated at around 710 kilometers on a full charge.
Visually the Mega is distinctive, with a long, low, smooth roofline deliberately inspired by high-speed rail vehicles. The body prioritizes aerodynamic efficiency -- Li Auto claims a drag coefficient of 0.215 Cd -- which contributes directly to the class-leading range figure. Inside, the Mega is configured as a six- or seven-seat MPV with premium sliding rear doors, individual second-row captain's chairs that recline extensively, third-row seating, and a cavernous cargo area. The interior technology mirrors the L-series in screen count and software sophistication, with Li Auto's AI assistant and over-the-air update infrastructure fully present.
Li Auto launched its own network of MEGA Super Charging stations timed with the Mega's 2024 debut to support the 5C capability. The Mega competes in the fast-growing premium electric MPV segment in China alongside rivals from BYD, Zeekr, and others. It signals Li Auto's ambition to prove itself beyond the EREV formula and in the pure-BEV space where charging infrastructure quality and vehicle range are the primary differentiators.
