Hyundai luxury arm, spun off in 2015. The G70, G80, GV80, and GV70 quietly became some of the most recommended luxury cars at any price.
EuroGenesis launched as a standalone brand in 2015, spinning off from Hyundai luxury division (the previous Genesis-badged Hyundais like the Genesis Coupe and Genesis sedan). The strategy was to build a luxury brand from scratch with Hyundai engineering depth but separate design language and dealer experience. It worked faster than anyone expected. The G70 sport sedan launched in 2018 won numerous comparison tests against the BMW 3-Series and Audi A4. The G80 mid-size sedan and G90 full-size sedan covered the executive segment. The GV70 and GV80 SUVs launched in 2020 and 2021 respectively, immediately becoming critical favorites in the luxury crossover space. The G70 3.3T (with Hyundai-developed 3.3 twin-turbo V6 making 365 horsepower) is the modern enthusiast pick. Manual transmission was offered briefly (2019-2021 model years only) and was a critical favorite among reviewers, though sales numbers led to its discontinuation. The brand has invested heavily in design under former Bentley designer Luc Donckerwolke. The double-headlight signature, the angular wheel designs, and the interior styling have given Genesis a coherent visual identity in less than a decade. The GV60 (electric SUV based on the E-GMP platform shared with the EV6 and Ioniq 5) and the upcoming X concept-based products represent the brand transition into electric vehicles. On WhipJury, Genesis submissions are heavy on G70 3.3T (especially manual transmission examples), G80, GV70, and GV80 builds. The community recognizes the value play that Genesis represents.
The G70 launched in 2018 on the same platform as the Kia Stinger. Available with 2.0 turbo four-cylinder or 3.3 twin-turbo V6, rear-drive or AWD, automatic or briefly manual transmission. Critical reception was strong: the chassis dynamics were genuinely competitive with the BMW 3-Series, the interior quality was at or near class leaders, and pricing undercut German competitors significantly. Manual transmission was offered for the 2019-2021 model years on V6 RWD examples and is now rare.
The GV80 launched in 2020 as Genesis first SUV, immediately winning North American Car/Truck/Utility of the Year recognition. The GV70 (smaller, more carlike) launched in 2021. Both use the same engineering family as the sedans but in elevated SUV bodies. Reviews have placed both at or near the top of their segments. The GV70 Electrified version uses the E-GMP electric platform.
G70 3.3T submissions are common, with manual transmission examples particularly well-received in voting. G80 and GV70 submissions appear regularly. The GV80 has a smaller but devoted following. The community treats Genesis as a serious luxury alternative, not as a disguised Hyundai.
