Toyota Racing Development. Toyota in-house performance and motorsport division. Produces TRD-branded parts and complete performance variants.
TRD (Toyota Racing Development) is Toyota in-house performance and motorsport division, established in 1979. The division produces high-performance parts for Toyota production cars, complete performance variants of Toyota models, and competes in various motorsport series including NASCAR, NHRA drag racing, off-road racing, and various Toyota-affiliated programs.
TRD parts and packages cover most of the Toyota and Lexus lineups. The Toyota Tundra TRD Pro (off-road focused), 4Runner TRD Pro, Tacoma TRD Pro, and Land Cruiser TRD are all examples of dedicated TRD performance variants. The Lexus IS F and Lexus LFA were partially developed with TRD involvement. TRD also produces aftermarket parts (intake systems, exhaust, brake kits) for Toyota production cars.
TRD has been particularly successful in motorsport. The Toyota Camry NASCAR Cup Series cars (Joe Gibbs Racing, 23XI Racing) are developed with TRD support. The Toyota Tundra Tacoma TRD vehicles compete in the Baja 1000 desert race. Toyota Le Mans Hypercar program includes TRD-derived engineering. The brand commands respect comparable to BMW M for Toyota and Lexus enthusiasts.
