The 2027 Detroit Auto Show opens to the public on Saturday, January 16, and runs through Sunday, January 24, 2027, at Huntington Place in downtown Detroit. The show's own site lists the full event as January 14 through 24, with the media, industry, and charity preview days ahead of the public opening.
Tickets aren't on sale yet. The show says they're coming soon, with early specials and family discounts to follow.
The public run is nine days and covers two weekends plus the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday on Monday, January 18. Before that comes the Charity Preview, which has raised more than $125 million since it started in 1976, according to the show. More than $100 million of that came in the past 25 years, all for children's charities in southeast Michigan.
Huntington Place sits on the Detroit River in downtown Detroit.
For decades this was the North American International Auto Show, the January event where Ford, GM, and Chrysler showed their biggest products at home. The organizer, the Detroit Auto Dealers Association, moved it to September for 2022 and 2023, skipped 2024, and brought it back to January in 2025, according to Motor1. The show also dropped the North American International name, which it had used since 1989, and rebranded as the Detroit Auto Show, MotorCities notes.
The show now describes itself in terms of immersive experiences, brand-defining vehicles, and hands-on activities, which in practice means more cars you can sit in and ride in. CBS Detroit reported that the 2025 show had four ride-and-drive tracks. It's still the show most tied to trucks and the Detroit brands, so it's a good place to compare full-size pickups and SUVs in one building.
Plan around the crowds. The opening weekend of January 16 and 17 and the holiday Monday will be the busiest days, and midweek should be calmer. January in Detroit is cold, so dress for the walk from parking.
Check detroitautoshow.com for prices and hours once they're posted. And if a reveal on the floor splits your group, put it on WhipJury against the outgoing model.
