The Alhambra is SEAT's large seven-seat MPV, built alongside the VW Sharan and named after the Alhambra palace in Granada.
The SEAT Alhambra has served as the brand's dedicated family minivan since 1996, built on shared underpinnings with the Volkswagen Sharan as part of a joint development program between the two VW Group brands. Named after the famous Alhambra palace in Granada, it prioritizes cabin space and flexibility over styling flourishes, with sliding rear doors on later generations for easier access in tight parking spaces.
Seating up to seven passengers across three rows, the Alhambra offers highly configurable seating that folds flat for cargo hauling, making it a favorite among larger families and buyers who need genuine MPV practicality rather than a crossover-styled substitute. Engine choices have included a range of turbocharged petrol and diesel units, with all-wheel drive available on select versions for added capability.
As Volkswagen Group shifted its focus toward SUVs, both the Alhambra and its Sharan sibling were phased out, but used examples remain a strong choice for buyers prioritizing interior space and load-carrying flexibility over the styling and image concerns that dominate crossover shopping. Checking maintenance on the diesel engines and sliding door mechanisms is worthwhile on higher-mileage examples.
