Opel Insignia: The Flagship Family Car
The Opel Insignia was Opel's flagship midsize and large family car, sold as the Vauxhall Insignia in the UK until its 2022 discontinuation.
The Insignia arrived in 2008 as the successor to the Vectra, taking over as Opel's largest mainstream car and its representative in the midsize family segment. Offered as a sedan and as a Sports Tourer estate, it aimed to bring more upscale styling and technology to a segment where Opel had traditionally competed on value alone.
Sold in the UK as the Vauxhall Insignia, the car earned European Car of the Year honors for its first generation and served as a common sight in fleet and company-car duty across the continent, a market where Opel and Vauxhall had long been strong.
