NIO EC6: Sleek Coupe-SUV with Battery-Swap Capability
The NIO EC6 is a fastback coupe-styled electric SUV that shares the ES6's platform and powertrain while adding a more dramatic silhouette and elevated style.
The EC6 debuted in production form in 2020 as NIO's coupe SUV, riding the same platform as the ES6 but featuring a raked roofline that sacrifices a small amount of rear headroom in exchange for a far more striking visual profile. The drag coefficient drops to approximately 0.25 compared to the ES6's 0.29, contributing to improved efficiency at highway speeds. The exterior is defined by flush door handles, a panoramic glass roof, and muscular fender flares that communicate performance without excess bulk.
Powertrain options mirror the ES6, with dual electric motors delivering all-wheel drive and a combined output that enables 0-to-100 km/h acceleration in the low-four-second range. Battery choices of 75 kWh and 100 kWh are available, with the larger pack enabling CLTC range estimates of around 600 km. The EC6 is fully battery-swap compatible, and NIO's Battery-as-a-Service subscription is available for buyers who prefer not to own the pack outright or who want to upgrade capacity later.
Inside, the EC6 shares the ES6's premium cabin with dual displays, quality materials, and the NOMI AI orb. Five adults fit comfortably, though the sloping roofline reduces rear headroom slightly versus the more upright ES6. The EC6 targets buyers who prioritize design over maximum practicality and competes with the BMW X4, Audi Q3 Sportback, and Porsche Macan Electric in the coupe-SUV segment, offering the added advantage of NIO's swap infrastructure.
