NIO ET5: Midsize Electric Sedan Rivaling Tesla Model 3
The NIO ET5 is a sporty midsize electric sedan that takes on the Tesla Model 3 and BMW 3 Series with competitive range, a striking interior, and full battery-swap support.
Launched for deliveries in late 2022, the ET5 is NIO's answer to the high-volume midsize premium sedan market dominated by Tesla's Model 3. Despite its compact footprint, the ET5 has a low roofline, a wide stance, and drag coefficient of around 0.24, giving it a genuinely sporty road presence. The interior features a minimalist twin-screen layout, quality soft-touch surfaces, and the NOMI AI assistant embedded in the dashboard. A panoramic glass roof floods the cabin with light.
The ET5 is offered with 75 kWh and 100 kWh battery options, and a touring estate version called the ET5 Touring adds a raised roofline and more cargo volume for buyers who need practicality without sacrificing the sedan's style. Both variants support battery swapping at any NIO Power Swap Station, and buyers can subscribe to the battery through Battery-as-a-Service rather than purchasing it outright. CLTC range reaches approximately 580 km with the 100 kWh pack.
Dual electric motors power all four wheels on standard trims, producing around 360 kW combined and enabling a 0-to-100 km/h time of about 4.0 seconds. NIO Pilot provides a suite of highway driving-assistance features, and the vehicle receives ongoing software improvements over the air. At its price point in China, the ET5 packages more sensor hardware and interior quality than the Model 3, while adding the flexibility of NIO's unique battery-swap ecosystem.
