Jeep Wrangler YJ: The First Wrangler
The YJ was the first Jeep Wrangler, the model that succeeded the CJ and famously introduced square headlights.
Produced from 1986 to 1995, the YJ was the first vehicle to wear the Wrangler name, replacing the long-running CJ. It is most recognizable for its controversial square headlights, the only Wrangler generation to use them, a styling choice enthusiasts later moved away from.
The YJ added wider track, anti-roll bars, and improved on-road manners over the CJ while retaining solid axles, removable top and doors, and genuine off-road capability. It modernized the classic Jeep formula for a broader audience.
As the original Wrangler, the YJ holds an important place in Jeep history and remains a popular, affordable classic for off-road enthusiasts.
