Jeep Commander: The Boxy Three-Row SUV
The Commander was Jeep's boxy three-row SUV of the mid-2000s, offering seven-seat capacity with rugged styling.
Produced from 2006 to 2010, the Commander was Jeep's mid-size three-row SUV, sharing its platform with the Grand Cherokee but adding a third row and distinctive boxy, upright styling that recalled classic Jeep wagons.
It offered V6 and V8 power, genuine off-road capability with available Quadra-Drive, and seating for seven. However, its tight third row and thirsty engines limited its appeal during a period of rising fuel prices.
The Commander was discontinued in the US after 2010, but the name later returned for a different three-row model in other markets. The original remains a rugged, distinctive used family SUV.
