Jeep Liberty: The Compact SUV Successor to the Cherokee
The Liberty was Jeep's compact SUV of the 2000s, replacing the legendary XJ Cherokee in the US market.
Produced from 2002 to 2012, the Liberty (sold as the Cherokee in some markets) replaced the iconic XJ Cherokee in the US. More rounded and car-like than its predecessor, it still offered genuine off-road capability and rugged Jeep character.
The Liberty offered V6 power, available four-wheel drive, and even a rare diesel option early on. Its compact size and Jeep capability made it a practical and popular choice during the SUV boom.
The Liberty was eventually succeeded by the modern Cherokee in 2014. It remains a capable, affordable used compact SUV with real Jeep off-road ability.
