GMC Jimmy: The Classic SUV
The Jimmy was GMC's SUV line, spanning the full-size K5 Jimmy and the popular compact S-15 Jimmy, GMC's versions of the Chevrolet Blazer.
The Jimmy name was GMC's counterpart to the Chevrolet Blazer across two main forms. The full-size Jimmy (1970 to 1991) was a rugged body-on-frame off-roader with a removable top, while the compact S-15 Jimmy (and later just Jimmy) was a popular small SUV from the 1980s to 2001.
The Jimmy offered V6 and V8 power, available four-wheel drive, and genuine capability, sharing its mechanicals with Chevrolet's SUVs but wearing GMC styling. The compact Jimmy was a strong seller during the SUV boom.
The Jimmy was an important part of GMC's SUV heritage before being effectively succeeded by the Envoy. Classic full-size Jimmys are appreciated by off-road enthusiasts.
