Bugatti
Bugatti's groundbreaking hypercar (2005-2015). 8.0L quad-turbocharged W16 making 1,001+ horsepower. The car that established modern hypercar performance.
The Bugatti Veyron is the original modern Bugatti hypercar, produced from 2005 to 2015. The Veyron was Volkswagen Group massive engineering investment to revive the Bugatti brand. The car used an 8.0L quad-turbocharged W16 (effectively two narrow-angle V8s sharing a crankshaft) making 1,001 horsepower in the standard Veyron 16.4. The Super Sport variant (2010-2011) made 1,200 horsepower and set the production car top speed record at 267.857 mph. The Veyron development was famously difficult. The W16 with four turbochargers and 10 radiators (yes, ten) was a bespoke engine designed specifically for the car. Volkswagen Group reportedly lost money on every Veyron despite the $1.7 million MSRP. The Veyron development costs were enormous; the car established Bugatti as the modern hypercar reference. Total Veyron production combined was 450 cars across all variants. Production ended in 2015 with the introduction of the Chiron successor. The Veyron has been continuously celebrated as one of the greatest modern hypercars. On WhipJury, Veyron submissions are extremely rare but reliably top voting when they appear.
