What is SR20DET?
Nissan's 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, a drifting staple found in the Silvia and 180SX and a hugely popular swap engine.
The SR20DET is a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four built by Nissan, most famously fitted to the Silvia and 180SX (S13, S14 and S15). The designation marks it as an SR-family engine, 2.0 litres, dual cam, electronic injection and turbocharged.
Compact, relatively light and responsive, the SR20DET became the default engine for rear-wheel-drive drift cars. It offers a good balance of power, tuning potential and availability, and responds well to bolt-on upgrades and larger turbochargers.
Because so many Silvias used it, the SR20DET is also one of the most common engine swaps worldwide, frequently dropped into other Nissans and even non-Nissan chassis. Its place in drift culture has made it one of the most recognisable Japanese four-cylinders.
